Discipline

RNS uses the following methods of discipline:

Good behavior is praised to provide positive reinforcement.

Early intervention re-channels misbehaving children to productive activities.

Active discussion of behavior proves effective in the longer term.

If all else fails, we give a time out of 5 minutes or less for thinking.

Programs

At Radnor Nursery School of Devon our first priority is providing our students with a warm and nurturing atmosphere in which to learn, and stimulating their curiosity with lots of fun and exciting experiences.

In the early years children make no distinction between learning and playing. Play is an activity a child engages in because he enjoys the activity, and if he is having fun he will be learning.

In the same way, reading to children regularly is the best way to prepare them for reading. At RNS books and stories are always available for children to enjoy, and story time is a part of the scheduled day. We read stories, look at pictures, discuss the story, reflect on what has happened, and predict what might.

Our curriculums are tailored to the various age groups. Use the links on the left to explore each particular curriculum. A common theme in all the curriculums is to use play and creative activities to develop social awareness, cognitive activities, motor skills, language, and emotional balance. Of course the curriculums are flexible enough to take advantage teachable moments, and to adapt to particular class needs.

Throughout the year, RNS schedules whole-school events that highlight the season, such as a trip to a working farm, a thanksgiving feast, a holiday celebration, donuts with dad, and a mother's day tea.
